our history

Established in 2007 as a labor of love, The Autism Council of Rochester was founded by its volunteer executive director, Lawana Jones. As the mother of an autistic daughter, Jones soon found that the Rochester community severely lacked the support services and programs her daughter and other ASD children needed to make the transition from high school to the adult community. In an effort to assist ASD children, offer support to families and advocate on their behalf, Jones created the council. The Autism Council of Rochester ultimately seeks to bridge the gap between the end of special education programs and the entrance into society for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
