About Us

Our staff and board members recognize the rapidly growing population of individuals with Autism. We have extensive experience working with the latest treatments for Autism and other developmental disabilities. Most individuals with ASD cannot live on their own without transition assistance, and many of them end up institutionalized, severely injured, and dependent on society for financial and physical care. We are committed to educating others about the dire consequences of abandoning these youth when they reach adulthood. With our help, many of these intelligent youth can finish their education, hold high-level jobs, care for themselves, and live independently. We have the social responsibility to help these young adults to live up to their potential, and we personally hold ourselves accountable to ensuring that our programs provide the quality of care that leads to very positive outcomes.

After years of helping kids with Autism, Lawana Jones (Executive Director) officially incorporated The Autism Council of Rochester, Inc. in 2006, as a nonprofit agency run by volunteers. Since receiving our nonprofit tax exemption in November of 2008, our nine board members have moved forward to aggressively pursue our goals. Our three staff members have 48 years (between them) of professional experience working with developmental disabilities. Some of us were drawn to this work for personal reasons and have kids with Autism, others have worked with clients in other agencies until reaching the limits of what that agency could do. We are all dedicated to public service and to making our world a better place through helping others.
